Tattoos have become a way of expressing the changes that a person goes through or even gaining an insight into their lives. Earlier, tattoos were seen only on gangsters and were disregarded among the civic community. However, as the years went by people became more individualistic and expressed their opinions freely. One such form of expression that became prevalent was tattooing. To cash in on an opportunity like this, the Learning Channel started to air a show known as Miami Ink which was a reality Television show based on the work and life of 5 tattoo artists. Miami Ink and the Miami Ink tattoos became so popular that it is in its 4th season now and is being aired around the world on various television channels. The Miami Ink tattoos represent the admiration and feelings of the shop artists.

The Miami Ink studio is located on Washington Avenue in Miami Beach, Florida. The most fascinating part of the art work done on each client is that the artists delve into the reason for their clients in getting tattoos and each persons reason is more compelling than the other one. This show was first aired in July 2005 and the duration is for half hour once a week. The show is co-owned by tattoo artists Ami James and Chris Nunez, both of whom have a wide experience in the art of tattoos and who have popularized the Miami Ink tattoos.

The main intention behind this show was to frame the popularity of Miami Ink tattoos and also to go behind the scenes and delve into the conscious of the tattoo artists, see how they operate and live and also learn from each other to better their skills. Initially, while writing about the show, the co-owners did not anticipate its success and did not imagine that it would be broadcast all around the world and people would come out of their closets and accept the show with admiration.

All the artists on the show bring a bundle of talent and myriad of ideas which motivates people in Miami Ink tattoos done from them. The artists who are on the show presently include Ami James, 33 year old ex-member of the Israeli army, who started tattooing from his house at the age of 20 and now has 40 tattoos on his body. Chris Nunez, who is an avid traveler and former construction worker, is also the co-owner of the studio. Darren Brass who is formerly from Pittsburgh came to Miami Ink to fire-up his inherent love for tattooing and is a trained artist now. Formerly from Japan Yoji Harada, is learning the art of tattooing and is also in a rock band. Besides these artists, there was another artist called Kat Von who is not with Miami Ink anymore and has her own show called LA Ink, which is very much like Miami Ink.

Each of the Miami Ink tattoos has its own charm and personality and is very personal to the bearer as they have a narrative to back the reason for getting a tattoo. The events that lead to a person getting a tattoo is sometimes very nerve wracking. The artists help people overcome their grief by listening to their reasons for getting a tattoo done and also relating to them thereby making people very comfortable at the studio and making the pain bearable. The artists discuss the tattoo with their client before finalizing it.

At Miami Ink, the artists create the simplest to most intrinsic Miami Ink tattoos on their clients who range from home makers, celebrities, and sportspersons to blue collared executives. The tattoos that are done on the show are varied and can range from anything like a flower to portraits and full body tattoos.

Miami Ink used to invite applications from potential clients who wished to be aired on television and get their Miami Ink tattoos done. Also, the show ran a competition for aspiring artists to work at Miami Ink in which applications would be called for from all around the USA and the artists would send samples of their work across.

The popularity of the Miami Ink tattoos series also gave rise to various other shows on a similar concept. Some of them are LA Ink, and London Ink which were actually having former Miami Ink artists showcasing their skills. Thus, we can say that Miami Ink gave rise to a new boom in the reality television shows and also made Miami Ink tattoos very popular.
